Reports from health professionals suggest that drug use is one of the most prominent health problems among asylum seekers and refugees. Some asylum seekers and refugees have been using drugs before they came to Europe, some got involved in drug use during their stay in refugee asylums. However, there is a lack of information on the extent and nature of the use of illegal and legal drugs in this target group and there are only a few sporadic, incoherent initiatives concerning drug prevention and demand reduction. Currently, there are not any national, specialist agencies for asylum seekers and refugees who have problems with substance misuse- local and national services may be of value but remember to consider language and cultural differences.
