Introduction to the National Health Service (Nov 2005)

This factsheet published by the DH has been written to explain the role of UK health services to newly-arrived individuals seeking asylum. It covers issues such as the role of GPs, their function as gatekeepers to the health services, how to register and how to access emergency services.
Space has been left for health teams to add their contact details, and those of local out-of-hours services. Special care has been taken to ensure that information is given in clear language, and the content and style has been tested with user groups.
The leaflet is only available electronically, for printing when needed.
The factsheet is available on the link below - click on the link and then click on 'I' and scroll down to 'Introduction to NHS' and click on that.
