FAMILY GROUP CONFERENCE REGIONAL GROUPS

Regional groups have developed independent of the FGC Network. These groups are organised by interested practitioners and managers in the area. Below is a list of FGC Regional Groups known to Family Rights Group, which are currently setup in the UK. We are a newly begun, informal group. We have a set of Terms of Reference set out below:
• to provide a network of support for FGC project co-ordinators and other interested parties;
• to share information and good practice;
• to share, monitor and review developments in practice and implementation of projects;
• to provide a forum for discussion on evaluation of outcomes of FGCs in the region, and to look at these in a national and international context;
• to disseminate information and evaluations from individual projects; and
• to promote the use of FGCs in the region

Meets on a bi-monthly basis from 10.30am till 12.30pm on a Tuesday. The dates for 2005 are

VENUE FOR MEETING We try to meet centrally in Westminster / Victoria but this does vary so it is worth checking before arriving.
REMIT OF GROUP / ISSUES RAISED The group offers:
• peer support for all projects;
• a time to discuss and reflect on practice issues;
• a time to discuss research that is published or which projects are undertaking;
• a time to discuss training;
• a time to discuss topical issues surrounding family group conferences; and
• we share the chairing and minute taking and facilitating of this meeting.

THIS GROUP MEET?
Every 2 or 3 months
VENUE FOR MEETING Each time by a different project. That project will then generally send out the invites, chair the meeting and send out minutes.
REMIT OF GROUP / ISSUES RAISED Agenda talks about practice issues, funding, someone usually presents a case study, integration with other procedures within social services or youth inclusion support panels (YISP) in YOT, evaluation tools, national / regional projects, conferences, seminars, policy and procedure sharing, general queries, peer support, training needs and supervision.
MEMBERS Network covers both sides of the Pennines up to Cumbria and as far as North Wales.

THIS GROUP MEET?
Every 2 months
VENUE FOR MEETING Rotates between different projects. Whichever hosts the meeting takes responsibility for chairing, minuting and laying out lunch.
REMIT OF GROUP / ISSUES RAISED This group is more professional support for practitioners - discussing caseload and issues. Agenda is many and varies but essentially revolve around practice. At last meeting we looked at the similarities and differences between projects and at why projects do things the way they do. We always have an information share and usually practice issues are explored.

We are currently planning a Conference in November 2005 entitled- FGCs and Children trusts- bringing it all together. This will be a chance to consider how FGCs can fit in the new System; how they can work across the board from self referrals, early intervention (referrals from education, health) through to referrals from social services and child protection and a model for family members involvement.
